Student iPad Policies and Restrictions
CCPS places restrictions on student iPads for the purpose of keeping students safe on the internet and on-task in the classroom. This document contains a list of policies and restrictions in place on student iPads supplied by CCPS.
Policies
Policy | Reason for the Restriction |
Students can't access the App Store or install any apps that are not approved | Prevents students from installing unwanted apps, such as games, social media, chat apps, VPNs, etc. |
Students can't access iTunes, Music, Podcasts, Game Center or any other entertainment apps | Prevents distractions |
Students can't access the Passwords app or use autofill for passwords | Student iPads are treated as shared devices since no login or passcode is required to use them. The Passwords app is a security risk in our environment since it exposes credentials used to connect to Wi-Fi. |
Siri is disabled | Prevents distractions |
Mail app is disabled | The Gmail app is available in the App Portal if needed. |
iCloud and the Find My app are disabled | Prevents an activation lock on the device which could render the device unusable. |
Students can't set a passcode | Prevents teachers/staff from being locked out of a student device. |
Students can't add VPN connections or change proxy settings | Prevents bypassing the web filter |
AirDrop is disabled | Prevents students from sharing pictures and files |
Students can't erase or reset an iPad | Prevents students from removing web filtering or other policies by resetting the device. |
FaceTime is disabled | Prevents distractions |
